Naturism and the Law - Sixty Second Guide

Remember:

• Naturism is not against the law.
• Behave reasonably, with consideration for others, and you should have no problems.
• Do not engage in sexual activity under the guise of naturism.

If approached by a Police Officer or other "person in authority" your position will be helped if you:

• Remain calm and try to be polite at all times.
• State that you had no intention to cause harassment, alarm or distress.
• Suggest that your actions were reasonable, in the circumstances.
• Cover up if requested to do so by a Police Officer .
• Give your name and address if asked by a Police Officer.
• Understand the law and the limits of police powers.

You may be told that your behaviour is:

• "An offence under Section 5 of the Public Order Act 1986"
• "Exposure - as defined by the Sexual Offences Act 2003" (rarely)
• "Contrary to a Local Byelaw" (ask for details)
• "Likely to cause a Breach of the Peace"
• "A Public Nuisance" (unlikely)
